Overview

This course deals with the concepts, principles, and the care of adult clients who are experiencing common medical surgical conditions in the health illness continuum specifically with gastrointestinal, genitor-urinary and reproductive problems. This will also equip the students with the necessary knowledge and skills in the assessment and in rendering life-saving measures to clients in acute biologic crisis which may arise in or out of the hospital area. It also includes Basic Life Support training.

Intended learning outcomes

Knowledge and understanding:

1- Describe the structures and functions of gastrointestinal, genitourinary tract and reproductive systems.

2- Identify the different diagnostic tests used to evaluate gastrointestinal, genitourinary tract and reproductive systems problems.

3- Identify the risks factors in developing gastrointestinal, genitourinary tract and reproductive systems problems.

4- Enumerate the different clinical manifestations of gastrointestinal, genitourinary tract and reproductive systems.

5- Defines emergency and disaster nursing and discuss the principles

Mental skills:

1- Perform nursing assessment to patients with gastrointestinal, genitourinary tract and reproductive systems problems.

2- Formulate nursing care plan for patients with gastrointestinal, genitourinary tract and reproductive systems problems.

3- perform the different nursing procedures needed by patients with gastrointestinal, genitourinary tract and reproductive systems problems.

4- Describe the specific nursing interventions applicable to specific emergency situations.

5- Apply emergency measures with the correct techniques and body mechanics during disaster and emergency.

Course Outline

Care of the patients with Urinary and Renal Disease:

a. Review the anatomy and physiology of the Urinary system

b. Urological assessment and clinical manifestations

c. Common laboratory and diagnostic studies related to Genitourinary system

urinalysis (clean catch urine specimen, 24 -hour urine collection), radiologic exams: KUB, IVP and cystoscopy
